FYI, the spelling of Pilipino with a P is an accepted way, it is the more culturally and politically charged spelling. There is no F in the non-colonized alphabet. But when it comes to naming the language, F is used because it is what’s in the constitution. Filipino is the official language of the Philippines not Tagalog. Filipino is more of an inclusive term due to the vast numbers of dialects in the Philippines. Also, it is called Filipino because the language is ever so changing by borrowing Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Malay, and English words. Lastly, not all Pinoys speak Tagalog, Tagalog is more the vernacular in the island of Luzon. I’ve actually met Pinoys who were from Visayas that were more fluent in English than Tagalog. Just felt the need to correct and elaborate, have good new year everyone.
